New Solo Scenarios in 5.2 "Treasures of the Thunder King"

This is just a quickie post to share some details about the "Treasures of the Thunder King" scenario that's coming in the 5.2 patch. This is unlike most scenarios where you just kill stuff and collect justice points. In this scenario, you run a gauntlet-style area and avoid bad stuff. At the same time there are treasure chests sprinkled throughout the chamber which you can loot. I picked up a couple of the necessary keys while doing other scenarios/quests, so I thought I'd use one and see what kinds of booty I could collect.

I only made it through the first room because I was unable to find the key to unlock the second door. But I took notes on the treasure I collected from the first room:

20 Motes of Harmony
4 Elder Charms
1 Shan'ze Stone
10 Justice Points
3 Tattered Parchment
97 gold
Plus another 52 gold from quest turn-ins

This seems like quite a good haul to me for 5 minutes of work. As you get used to this run I'm sure your cash and goodie pile will increase. If you want to learn more about the scenario, you can read about it on Wowpedia. The main reason I wanted to share my information with you guys is because this is a substantial source for motes of harmony as well as rep items. So if you end up with a key from doing dailies, don't be afraid to use it and beef up your stash of SoH for crafting!

  1. What I can't seem to find a defintitive answer to is: are these solo scenarios repeatable like all the other scenarios? Or only when the item drops?

    1. It's my understanding that this scenario is repeatable as long as you have additional keys. My hunter has two, so theoretically she can return to the "treasure" scenario. I see on MMO-Champion that the "storytelling" scenarios are not repeatable and I can confirm that they are not listed in the scenario queue.

From the Devs: "The new storytelling scenarios in Patch 5.2 can't be repeated, so make sure to take your time when you get to them. They are unlocked by the server first, and then by your character. This means you will get to see them no matter how late you join the war effort."

I also read yesterday in the interview with Dave Kosak that he said "It'll take people weeks I think to master the treasure room, because you get one, maybe two runs a week", which supports my theory that the Treasure scenario is repeatable. As far as I can tell, this is the only scenario that will be repeatable in 5.3 and it requires an epic key to start it.

    2. If you're talking about the door at the end of the first room of chests, you don't need a key to open it. There's a lever to the left of the bottom of the stairs.

    3. By the time I found the lever, my timer was expired, lol! I think when you hover over the door it says it requires a special key and I just assumed that was the only option. Surely someone has written guides for this thing by now :)
