MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Tailoring

Today I worked on leveling my Tailoring, using my level 85 Warlock. This should give everyone out there confidence that a craptastic, fresh off the boat toon can follow these tradeskill guides. My warlock has terrible gear, so bad that she was actually putting on the junk that dropped off random mobs. Even after equipping a handful of MoP upgrades, her item level is only 345. I leveled her with Archaeology, which should give you an idea of how she managed to reach 85 with such lame gear.

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Engineering

The first thing I want to share is that my Engineer is a Gnome. So she starts her skill at 540, but she has to level up to 615 so it balances out. I double-checked myself with Wowhead along the way to make sure that my recipes looked comparable to their values at several parts of the process. I believe my experience should be the same as you non-Engineers, except that I can learn recipes a tad earlier than you can. That said, I tried not to use those recipes until the proper level.

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Jewelcrafting

This weekend I decided to tackle Zen Jewelcrafting, both the recipe list and the leveling guide. More than any other profession, Jewelcrafting has been a case of extremes. It's a combination of insanely easy topped off with probably the hardest and most labor-intensive sprint to the finish. Now that I've scared you to death, let's jump in :)

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Blacksmithing

Over the past two days I've been working on Zen Blacksmithing. I ran into a troubling snag with motes of harmony, they seem to be dropping at a much lower rate. I'm not the only one having this issue, one of our readers has also reported a poor rate on motes this week. I want to investigate this more fully, but the drop rate currently looks to be around 70% lower than my previous test of 10/hour. Bear in mind that my tests are done in the early zones where most players will be starting out. I will continue to monitor the situation, but at this point we need to consider the mote situation as somewhat unknown on drop rates.

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Leatherworking

Today I tackled Leatherworking as the next tradeskill to get some Beta action. I've actually been working on Leatherworking for a long time, mostly on the leather collection side. As a result I started with over 30 stacks of exotic leather and almost 4 stacks of prismatic scales. These are the new leather materials from Pandaria. My main goal in producing this guide is to propose a leveling path that conserves materials and still gets you to the Zen level cap. Luckily with some super sleuthing this week, I've been able to work that out.

MoP Beta Files: Farming for Crafters

I've been planning for quite a while to write a guide for the new Farming content that's being added in Mists of Pandaria. After checking out some other guides on the subject, I decided that they were quite thorough. I don't think anyone will have difficulty finding a quality article, both Wowhead and El (of El's Anglin) have excellent coverage. Instead I thought I'd focus on Farms as they relate to tradeskills. There's a lot to learn about Farming and putting it all into one big post is quite overwhelming. I think this way you can read about Farming at your leisure and I will use my blog to cover the details that affect professions.

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Enchanting

I decided to tackle Enchanting this weekend, since they were still tinkering with gear professions in Friday's Beta patch. The recipes for Enchanting have been static for a while now, so hopefully there aren't plans to fiddle with them again. That said, I found it ridiculously easy to level. Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised to see changes made. I have another toon who can run the process again if that happens.

MoP Beta Files: Leveling Zen Alchemy

Alchemists are getting some significant changes to their leveling process in Mists of Pandaria. The vast majority of your recipes have been moved into a research/discovery system. The trainers will only teach you 2 recipes at 500 skill. These two recipes are used to unlock all of the other recipes in Zen Alchemy. As a result there is no set progression in crafting for skill points. That said, I've done my best to compile a guide that should help you get there as easily as possible.

MoP Beta Files: Spirit of Harmony Details

Blizzard has posted an entry in their blog with more information about Spirit of Harmony. Some of it we already knew but there are details here that I hadn't seen before. You can read the full post here, but I wanted to emphasize some highlights:

MoP Beta Files: Engineering Cogs INC

I just ran into our missing friends, the Engineering cogs on the trainer in Stormwind today. We had a new build on the Beta realms yesterday and apparently they put more goodies in for professions. These new cogs are learned at 550. Here are some pics I took:

LF Feedback on MoP Alchemy Recipe List

I don't normally do this, but I'm kind of in a pickle and I have to make a judgement call. Normally I would just do what feels right (or less wrong) to me personally but I thought this time I'd open it up to discussion :)

The Alchemy discovery system in MoP is kind of weird. Having only gone through the process once, I can't be 100% sure of my findings. I have some theories on the situation but I would need to level Alchemy a few more times to really solidify my data. I can't really do that in the Beta since we are limited to 5 character copies and I need to test other professions.

MoP Beta Files: Round One Herbalism

Over the past week I've been working through Herbalism and I think I have enough information to build a preliminary guide. Once again I hope to do a secondary pass and refine the process (updated 9/6, see "Update" section at the end), but this guide will get it done. The hard part about gathering in Pandaria is the massive presence of low level herbs (and ore) in all zones. This complicates the leveling process because there are no zones that are exclusively or even predominantly high level nodes. We are no longer in a situation where a higher zone means higher nodes. We are in a situation where there is one predominating node for the continent and all of the other types are secondary. As a result I'm having to work harder than normal to find spots that will get you guys the last 25-50 skill points in gathering.

MoP: Interesting Changes in the Latest Beta Build

Another set of changes in going into the Beta this week and there are some interesting things going on with professions. First - Blacksmithing is getting some kyparite recipes. This may change the outlook for those of you debating over strategy on Mining. It should increase the value of kyparite for your own crafting goals as well as its gold-making potential. I think we need to assume that kyparite is a player in the ore market and plan accordingly.

The other interesting change is in Engineering. It appears that all of the tinker recipes are being upgraded to MoP components when MoP launches. To my recollection this is an unprecedented change. I can't think of a time when old recipes were upgraded to use newer components. Typically they reduce components and remove obscure ingredients whenever they bother to revamp older recipes. I think this is actually a good thing for Engineers, as it will ease the burden to keep a stockpile of older mats.

There are also a few changes to Leatherworking leg armors, but I think they mostly fall into the category of bug fixes. I was pretty sure that 50 magnificent hide bit was not intended :)

MoP Beta Files: Round One Mining

Yesterday I mentioned that I was working on a Mining guide. I also mentioned I was having issues. I think I managed to work out some of the kinks in my plan, so here goes. Some of you have already hit on the trouble spots with Gathering (let's call it that to distinguish it from Farming). Panda zones have phasing and some hubs are completely absent until you've quested through them. While I can't promise this won't bite you, I personally have not run into any massive roadblocks due to this. From my experience in Beta there's enough content/areas available that leveling Mining is very workable from a volume standpoint.

Zen Cooking & Engineering Recipes Online

This is just a brief post to let you guys know that we just added new Pandaria recipes to the Crafter's Tome web site. Zen Cooking and Zen Engineering recipes can now be found in the recipe lists. For the easiest way to view them, make sure you select "Mists of Pandaria" on the Expansion filter. In addition, for Zen Cooking you can use the "Specialty" filter to choose a specific "Way" set of Cooking recipes. More new recipes will be going online over the next few weeks, along with Zen leveling guides on the blog.

Here are links to the new recipe lists:

Also, for those following the Comment threads from our Prospecting post, I think I've worked through my issues with Mining and hope to have a post for you guys tomorrow!

MoP Beta Files: Prospecting Ghost Iron

Today I've been working on my Mining leveling guide and as a result I've got 2 bags full of ore. I thought that might be a good time to do some prospecting and take some notes for you guys. I know there's some concern about the volume of blue gems that are coming from prospecting. So let's just dig in and see what we can find out.

MoP Beta Files: First Look at Zen Engineering

In addition to Jewelcrafting, Engineering was also activated on the Beta realm last week. Today I'm bringing you some of the highlights from Tinker Town :)

The first item that caught my eye was these nifty gathering goggles:

MoP Beta Files: First Look at Zen Jewelcrafting

First, a shout out to Flock for commenting on this and bringing it to my attention! I was so caught up in Farming that I didn't do my usual trainer check after the last Beta patch. I had no idea that Jewelcrafting and Engineering were finally in!! My bad, sorry folks :) At any rate, I'm on it and I have a preview for you.
