Post Patch Info for Patch 5.1

I'm throwing out a quick little post to make sure folks know about a few changes in yesterday's patch (5.1).

  • A commendation has been added for the Tillers. I wasn't sure if the Tillers would be included in the reputation bonus changes, but apparently they were. This should be very helpful for alts still unlocking their farms. I know my hunter went up 6000 rep in one night thanks to this change!
  • Rep bonuses are applied to the rep you get from harvesting your crops. My girls were getting 110 rep (55 bonus rep) for every crop they collected last night. This means you can get 440/880/1320 rep just for picking plants! Assuming guild perks of course :)
  • Recipes on vendors are not flagged as "Already Known" so be careful about purchasing vendor recipes based on that status text. I made that mistake right off the bat last night and almost did it a second time while visiting various faction vendors.
  • Trading a Spirit of Harmony to the SoH vendor will now purchase only 2x Golden Lotus, reduced from 3x Golden Lotus previously.
  • The patch notes specified that a Spirit of Harmony can be purchased with 600 Conquest Points. I've confirmed that this is the case, you can find the Conquest vendor at the tower just south of the Terrace of Gurthan along the Serpent's Spine (the big wall between zones).
  • Silkmaster Tsai of the Silken Fields (in Valley of the Four Winds) has become a Tailoring trainer. It's about dang time!
  • Confirmed nerf of herb/ore spawns in Pandaria!
Some of these items were not in the patch notes, so I decided to share them here. If you've found any other undocumented changes, feel free to add them to the Comments!

  1. The inevitable node nerf is now live and spawns have been reduced by 50%. It's quite confusing because there are contradictory reports as to how it is playing out on different servers.

While I'm not surprised I will say it feels more punishing than it did in the past but I think that is because my server is dying. Right now, it can be difficult to sell herbs at any price. I sold most of my DM decks the last two months for prices less than what I did in Cata. :-(

    1. I've been hearing the same thing from guildmates and chat, so there's a good chance that the spawn rates were reduced. It's possible that the conflicting reports are a result of CRZ confusion? I could see where that might lead some players to believe that spawn rates are higher if they happen to cross into a lower pop realm. Just a thought.

I've been expecting this for weeks now, so I'm not surprised it finally kicked in. But given the fact that they also reduced the Golden Lotus trade, it makes sense.

    2. Reader Wardemon found a blue post for us that confirms the nerf:

  2. Yeah either its the nerfs to spawn rates or the botter scripts having to be updated but the ore market is terrible right now for buyers. 50g a stack when we were hovering just above 30 for some time on Stormrage US. Prices are just starting to come back down today. I think the botters are back up and running.

  3. I noticed i got several Golden Lotus today while herbing other nodes. Not sure if this is new or if I've just not paid attention before. Maybe an effort to keep Golden Lotus(es) from becoming too rare?

    1. It's certainly possible that they boosted the spawn rate for GL to balance the change in quantity from the vendor. I doubt they raised it enough to make up the difference, probably just enough to mediate the anticipated drought. Wowhead isn't reflecting this change in their drop tables but one commenter has made the same observation that you did :)

  4. I also picked a lotus while getting other plants. I had to check my log at first, because I was like, 'huh'??

  5. Here are the changes to GL that I know about:

***Reduction from 3 to 2 GL per SoH

***GL now drops from regular herbs nodes yet also remain a separate node as well. Only the separate GL node gives Luck of The Lotus. My impression is that this GL node spawn rate has been nerfed too BUT since those are so rare its difficult to tell especially in light of the overall herb nerf.

***The spawn rate of GL from planting Enigma seed has been buffed. I have yet to get less than 25% GL and many days I've gotten 50% GL (eight of them!) since 5.1

    1. Thanks for the info about farms and such! I have also seen the standard GL spawn in the past week, but they do seem to be more rare than before. I have yet to find a lotus paired with another herb, but that may be due to my lower herb-picking activities this past week.

  6. I just wanted to confirm that I got my first Golden Lotus as a bonus herb last night! This was in VotFW from a silkweed node, so it's not just high level herbs either. Based on all the comments here, I think we can be fairly certain that they are dropping from any node now. You only get the buff if you pick an actual GL node, I didn't get the buff when I got it as a bonus herb.

I also spoke with a guildmate last night who confirmed the higher drop rate from Tiller plants. The spawn rate can be at least as high as 50% but typically closer to 25%. It may be worth devoting a portion of your garden to herbs if you need to feed an Alchemist.
