Patch 4.3 Preview of the Darkmoon Faire Profession Quests

It looks like the Darkmoon Faire was activated on the Test Realm yesterday, so I was finally able to check it out and see what they had to offer for professions. You may recall that the preview article posted on the official site mentioned that there would be a "plethora of profession recipes", so I've been looking forward to seeing that. I wandered the new Faire grounds quite a bit and checked every vendor and quest giver I came across. I was able to locate the new Profession quest givers and it appears that they vary their offerings depending on which tradeskill you have. So check in with all quest NPCs when you arrive to make sure you pick them all up. If you're on a toon that has all possible professions available to them, you should be able to find six crafting quests. Here are some screenshots I took of the quests I found:

The quests seem to cover all of the secondary skills, but be aware that for the Archaeology quest you'll be asked to "donate" some of your fragments. They really mean that too, the quest will literally remove some of your existing fragments from an artifact in progress. In my case it was a Fossil artifact, so I wasn't too heartbroken about it.

I also found these two quests for my Leatherworking/Skinning skills. No actual skinning was involved, just "skinning" quest objects on the ground. The Leatherworking quest had me making some items which required crafting materials from a trade vendor. The Faire grounds have a portal to Elwynn Forest (and Durotar I assume) so you can easily get back to a major city. For Alliance you can use the Trade vendor by the wagon in Goldshire to purchase your items.

I found these quests to be entertaining because I was using my tradeskills to complete them. For the Fishing quest I actually had to fish, not just pick up stolen barrels of someone else's fish. The Cooking quest required me to get some actual flour from the trade vendor and use it on the froggy bits from the quest NPC. Overall I felt these quests were better designed than most of the Cooking/Fishing quests we got for Cataclysm. The only thing I might have done differently would be possibly send you a little further out around the DMF island to complete the tasks. But I was pleased to see that many of these quests incorporated crafting-like actions in them.

Sadly, these quests are not dailies. You can only do them once, unlike the carnival game quests. I posted a suggestion on the forums to turn these into dailies, but I don't know if anything will come of that. It's possible that when the DMF is activated each month that the quests will unlock again, but for now that's unknown.

And as I mentioned at the beginning of the post - no recipes in sight. I looked all over and couldn't find any vendor selling recipes. I found vendors selling food, drink, pets, transmog gear and heirlooms. But I could not find any recipes at all. I would like to say that maybe they'll be added in another build, but the Faire looks pretty complete at it stands. So I'm not sure what to think of the missing recipes. I posted on the PTR forums about it, perhaps that will help in some way. I'm disappointed though, I was looking forward to see what they had in mind for Darkmoon recipes. I thought maybe some additional transmog gear or something.

  1. Just did the JC/Mining version of the quests and they are quite similar to the others. Make sure you check all NPCs to get the quests :)

  2. Didn't know they were a one time only quest (though I should have suspected that from the yellow and not blue exclamation mark).

A pity, I was planning on using the + skill points to level some professions I don't have maxed out yet and create lots of transmutation specced alchemists.

  3. Yes, I went back today just to make sure that the quests hadn't repopped. The only ones available to me this morning were the Faire games, no profession quests.

  4. I hear that there are new (and more expensive) quests on the org/stormwind alchemy trainers for switching specs. Truegold for transmute spec. ouch.

  5. They might be once per faire/month though.

  6. I did an Enchanting Quest. Sayge had me pick up 6 discarded weapons, DE them and give him 6 special dust. Same as others ( no skillup as I was maxed) 5 DMF tix.
Also remind people to bring 5 simple flour for cooking frogs.

  8. Yes, I can confirm the Maelstrom Shatter recipe is on the PTR. Perhaps I need a quickie post to give the info on this recipe :)
