Dig Rat Stew is Back!

The other big undocumented discovery in Patch 4.2 is the recipe for Dig Rat Stew sneaking in. I got an email from a Horde player who successfully farmed it in the Southern Barrens. The recipe now drops from the combatants in Bael Modan. It binds when picked up, so you have to farm it on the character that needs it. If you're Alliance, you need to kill the Taurens in the dig site. I was able to get the recipe four times with the average drop taking about 7 kills. I did have one aberrant drop that took 93 kills, but I suspect I was overfarming the spot at that point.

For Horde, you should target the dwarves at the top of the hill. Don't kill the excavators in the pit, I made that mistake and 130 kills later I had no recipe. If you go after the mobs in and around the keep, you'll get the recipe pretty quickly. I had one after about sixteen mobs, quite reasonable I thought.

As a bonus, this spot is great for farming the Savory Deviate Delight recipe! I got two copies on my Alliance character (this was during the 92 kill "aberrant" session) and one on the Horde toon (during the 130 kill "wrong mob" session). It seems to have a pretty solid drop rate if you stick around and kill about 100 mobs. On a high level character this can be done in 30 minutes easily, the respawn in this area is very fast. Certainly worth doing if you're in the area for the Dig Rat recipe and still need Savory Deviate Delight. Another recipe that drops regularly here is Elixir of Giant Growth, I ended up with several copies of that too.

Beware that there are reports of phasing issues if you've already played through this zone. It's possible to kite the mobs out of Bael Modan in that situation, although you might need help from a buddy (who isn't phased) to target them.
