Patch 4.1 Tradeskill Changes

I went through the "official" patch notes last night and compiled this list of changes that are related to professions. It's pretty skimpy, but I thought I'd go ahead and post it for those of you who didn't want to wade through the whole thing looking for crafting nuggets. Hopefully this list will give you some ideas of things to prepare for or focus your energies on when the servers come back up:

All trade goods available for purchase with Honor or Justice Points from the associated commodities vendors have had their prices reduced by 50%. (more cheap mats will flood the market)

Maelstrom Crystals are now available for purchase with Honor or Justice Points from the associated commodities vendors. (cheaper crystals, woohoo!)

Many pieces of crafted epic armor have had sockets added. (rare gem sales will likely have a short spike this week)

All major cities will now have every type of profession trainer and their associated trade supply vendors. (more convenient training for levelers)

New Cooking and Fishing Dailies have been added to Darnassus, Ironforge, Thunder Bluff, and Undercity. (extra daily quest options for levelers)

Seven new rare items have been added to Archaeology. (I've been saving my Fossil fragments, have you?)

Players now have a much smaller chance of getting a dig site for a race for which they have completed all rare finds. (Thank God! Over half of my dig sites are Fossil right now. Annoying.)

Two more pet collection achievements (Petting Zoo and Menagerie) which should create a boost in pet sales.

Two new Cataclysm food achievements (Cataclysmically Delicious and Drown Your Sorrows) which may give a bump to Cataclysm crafted food sales.

Glyph Changes:
  • Glyph of Raise Ally is now Glyph of Death Gate, and makes Death Gate cast 60% faster. (This glyph may become less popular since it loses combat utility)
  • Glyph of Rake is now Glyph of Pounce, which increases the range of Pounce by 3 yards. (This glyph may not see much change, both effects are situational and do not increase DPS).
  • Glyph of Mend Pet is now Glyph of Lesser Proportion. (This glyph may become less popular since it loses utility and becomes cosmetic in nature)
  • Glyph of Frost Armor (This is a NEW glyph with no indication that I've found of the source. My best guess is Northrend research, but check the trainers just in case)

Other changes not in the patch notes :

It appears that the vendor price for cut uncommon gems may be reduced drastically. This could drive the price of these gems down even more since their base value will be much lower.

Noble Hops and Dry Yeast are no longer sold for Cooking tokens and can be bought in unlimited supply with gold. All related markets will likely dry up.

??? - Post in the Comments if you know of other changes that I didn't mention here.

  1. Glyph of Frost Armor is not on the trainer. My alt still hasn't learned all the research recipes yet so I can't test the research method. Be sure to share if you get your hands on this one!

  2. I can confirm Northrend research :)

  3. Yah, I'm seeing the same thing from the Consortium folks. Do your research today peeps!

  4. There's a new JC recipe, Punisher's Band available from your JC vendor for 5 tokens.

  5. Noble HOPS was used for only 1 recipe - Darkbrew Lager.

Wowhead hasn't recorded it, but the recipe has been changed. Hops and yeast aren't used, instead 2 boozes from vendors are used.
I'd post what they were, but I'm liable to get it wrong, and don't see where I can look it up though.

Drinking the Lager was needed for a new achievement, so I made one last night.

As far as I know, the hops aren't used at all.

BTW: there are 3 new achievements that require cooked food. One of them requires 91 chocolate chip cookies, which should shoot up the demand for cocoa beans/cookies. the beans sold for 2g each when before they rarely were bought for 5s-30s.

  6. I actually had the details on the Darkbrew Lager change in a post a few weeks back. Anyone needing more information on that can read about it here:

    Darkbrew Lager 4.1

There's a screenshot of the new recipe with the vendor ingredients.

  7. I see that crafted shields gained a gem slot. Did anything else gain one in 4.1?

  8. Well I'm not sure how much to believe from Wowhead and MMO-Champ since they are telling me different stories on sockets. I just checked these items in-game to be sure.

I see gems sockets on the epic leather belt which I pretty sure weren't there before. It looks like one of the rare cloaks got a socket as well, but the other LW cloak has none. At this point all the epic LW items have a socket and one of the two rare cloaks.

All of the epic BS and Tailoring items now have a socket, not sure what their status was before.

  9. Several recipes were added to the trainer, Tasty Lion Steak and Kaldorei Spider Kabobs are the 2 I remember off the top of my head.
