Horde Horrors of The Shattering

This weekend I've spent a good chunk of time visiting vendors in classic zones. I've been trying to document who disappeared/moved/survived the Cataclysm. I'm only about 25% through my list of several hundred vendors, but I found a particularly sad situation in Ashenvale that I was moved to report.

If you haven't been to Ashenvale recently, you may not realize that Silverwind Refuge was taken over by the Horde. There were several vendors and trainers there, including two that sold recipes for Cooks and Alchemists. I received an email recently, letting me know that this town was no longer Alliance controlled. So I flew out to investigate.

When I went inside the building, I noted that all of the residents were completely new. They weren't even Horde versions of the same vendors, just different altogether. I continued to walk around the town, hoping to spot a new trade vendor. I noticed that there were some Alliance guards lying on the ground. Then I realized one had a name:

That's right... THIS is our missing vendor! The Horde murdered him and left his body outside to ROT!! You heartless fiends! You depraved savages!!

After spotting poor Harklan, I started wandering among the bodies and found other hapless victims:

This is poor Ulthaan, our Cooking vendor. Tossed out into the weeds like yesterday's trash. Who will sell Alliance noobs their Big Bear Steak and Lean Venison recipes now? Only the bane of many a classic player's existence... an unreliable robot found occasionally among the bleak dunes of Desolace.

And here is young Kylanna, apparently cut down right in the middle of brewing some potent concoction. We'll never know what exciting new elixir she may have had in store for us...

I plan to continue my explorations - tracking down lost souls and hoping to find them alive and well. But this sad town forced me to pause and mourn the loss of those who did not survive the Cataclysm.

If it is like the Horde counterparts, try Feralas for your missing recipes (including those from Tanaris.)

  2. I've already been to the Alliance camps in Feralas and didn't find anything new there. In fact, our vendors in Thalanaar are also missing. I'm working my way to Tanaris, maybe I'll have some luck there :)

  3. Ahh, I found the Horde equivalent! Apparently the Ruins of Taurajo is infested with Alliance looters and there are dead Horde NPCs on the ground. Boo Alliance!! Although... they look like Defias bandits to me. Clearly they must be a rogue group of pillaging losers ;)

  4. I went there a day late to buy the Herbalist leather glove pattern before cata. Gone. Unluckily, I found the pattern on the AH for 10g. The gloves did not sell.

  6. I know Laird for alliance is dead. :( Most of the Steamwheedle Port vendors are Missing in Action, as is Narain Soothfancy (Though there's a rather evil looking gnome in his place sometimes!)

  7. Yes, I've already confirmed that Laird of Darkshore is missing. In fact, all four vendors from Darkshore are gone, I was unable to find any of them.

  8. Hagu, I thought the Herbalist leather glove pattern had disappeared too (and was disappointed), but it still exists in Cata. You need to go to the camp where it was before (southwestern Ashenvale, I think it's between the Shrine of Aessina and the Fire Scar Shrine) where you will see the three members of the camp bound in chains. If you do 2 or 3 quests, you will free them and then be able to buy the leather glove pattern to your heart's content (taking into account the restocking time for the vendor after each purchase, of course).
I've bought it a few times myself, when I've been in the neighborhood.

  9. Oh yes, and what the horde have done to Ashenvale horrifies me. It and Darkshore were the only zones I was really attached to. I flew around with my jaw open in horror, and killed many horde npcs in anger but it was a futile process since they just kept respawning.
I'd probably vote it the worst change in Cata, because I've been overwhelmingly happy aside from this.

  11. Narain Soothfancy now lives in one of the pop up camps in Tanaris.

  12. Hagu: I can confirm that the Herbalist Glove pattern is still available. Anon is correct, you must do a quest chain to free Harlown Darkweave before he will sell to you (limited supply respawn still applies). I just did this a few days ago on the PTR and I'm adding the information to my listings.

Narain Soothfancy still hangs out in his hut. The three times I found him (PTR/Live) he was a rare aggressive elite. He may have other spawn points, but he also shows up in his old home :)

  13. You killed my tribesmen in Camp Taurajo, we slaughter your nelfs at Silverwing Refuge. What did you expect? How long can we endure your encroachment on our lands? Varian has made his case for war, but did you stop to listen to Jaina Proudmore? We did not want this.
