Cooking Goodie Bag... Coming Soon!

Not a huge news event, I know :) But I wanted to share my information on the new goodie bag that will be added to the Cooking vendor in the next patch. These bags cost just one daily token. By the time the next patch becomes available, most Cooks will have the bulk of the recipes they plan to purchase. Apparently that means it's time for something new to buy, hehe.

Coming in patch 4.0.6 the Cooking vendor will sell you a bag of cooking ingredients that includes the hops, yeast and cocoa beans we've been missing. So far I've purchased three different bags and there seems to be some variation in the contents. I haven't figured out if it's a daily rotation or randomized each time you buy. I'm leaning toward a daily rotation, because all four characters I checked with today had the same item available.

What I did figure out is that the bag's name and tooltip is different depending on what's inside the bag. One bag was called "Imported Supplies" with the tooltip "Contents: Lots of cocoa beans" and there were 2 stacks of cocoa beans inside. Another bag I purchased was called "Cook's Cache" and had a stack of cocoa beans, a stack of noble hops and a stack of dry yeast inside. This bag's tooltip said "Contains a large supply of cocoa beans, noble hops and dry yeast." So you can see that the tooltip is pretty explicit about what's in the bag. There may be more variations than these, but at least we know to keep an eye on the item's name and tooltip if we're concerned about what's in the bag.

Here's a picture of the vendor window showing the new bag item:

And here's a pic of the bag's contents with the tooltip also shown:

If you have any questions about something I didn't cover, feel free to post in the Comments!

  1. Wait, what?

So, we should stock up on the Cocoa Beans, Noble Hops, and Dry Yeast that are sold in unlimited supply by Bario Matalli and Shazdar?

Sorry if I'm confused, I got very little sleep last night.

  2. No, more of a buyer beware kind of thing. Check the tooltip before you buy the bag to make sure it has the items you want inside :)

  3. yeah, i don't understand either. Are they not going to be buyable for gold anymore? Why would we ever buy this thing with tokens instead of a crate of meat?

  4. Well, if you prefer to buy those items with cash then I would stock up now. On the PTR those three ingredients are no longer available for purchase with gold. The only option appears to be using a token and getting a bag with 2-3 stacks of ingredients. Apparently they don't like the unlimited supply situation, so plan accordingly if this is a problem for you.

  5. Well, well, well... If there's a notion of making these items no longer purchasable, I would say stock up on those beans. Very good for leveling to a certain point. I haven't really researched the other mats but they were useless to me when I leveled cooking.

  6. I'm sure blizzard thought of this, but the item seems refundable? Please tell me you can't take 2/3 stacks out, close the bag again and return it for full credit, repeat infinitely...

  7. Nice tip, thanks. Stocking up later today on some hops, beans and yeast. Not a lot but I want to make sure I have on hand what I need when I need it--and not have to depend on a random bag that may or may not yield what I need at that moment.

  8. Anon: These bags don't seem to have any form of sellback option. I just tried one this morning and the vendor wouldn't buy it back even with nothing removed from the bag.

  9. Heya Kaliope,
I just wanted to say thank you for the heads up.

Because of this post, I bought about 24 stacks of each ingredient before the patch, and am posting singles for about 9-10g, and stacks of 5 for 24-25g. Huge profit return on it.

  11. Hi Kaliope-
My realm seems to only have the cocoa beans at this point- does anyone know where else to get the hops or yeast?

  12. My newest post (4/11/11) deals with the yeast/hops issue. It's gone for good and the recipe is modified in 4.1 to support the change.
