Cataclysm NOOB Guide!

Yes, the famous Noob Guide is back for Cataclysm :) I wrote this a couple of weeks ago and since some of the content is already on the Live realms I'm posting it. Some of the information is applicable now and some will become available on Launch Day. Either way, I hope it answers questions for those of you who are still confused.

Don't forget that you can find articles here for information I've covered throughout the Beta. Just because it's not on the front page of the blog doesn't mean it's not here. I see some of you popping in on posts that are a couple of months old... use the search box or the tag cloud to find more recent articles about professions. There's a leveling guide for every tradeskill, make sure you read up before release day!

Take me to the Noob Guide

  1. Super wonderful, thank you! Do you think you could possibly add the cost of Flight Master's License and the level requirements for each zone in addition to Deepholm?

  2. Good idea, I'll see if I can get that in there :)

  3. I know there's no way to check on this with the Beta/PTR down, but maybe you remember: did the profession trainers in Dalaran train Illustrious skill? Wowhead confirms that the Dalaran flight trainer will do Flight Master's License, so as long as professions are covered, you could avoid the crush in Org/Stormwind via training in Dalaran and hearthing close to your initial quest zone.

  4. Yes, the Dalaran trainers did have Illustrious skill training. I know for certain that Herbalism, Mining and Archaeology were there. I believe Jewelcrafting and Leatherworking are as well. I assume the others were also available, although I didn't personally check each one.

If you plan to quest in Hyjal, you can certainly set your hearth to an adjacent zone such as Winterspring. For Vashj'ir I'm not certain that would be appropriate because Stormwind/Orgrimmar have cutscene quests that you may need to do to access the first hub. At least, I haven't tried to quest through Vashj'ir without doing the cutscene quest. I can't promise that is a viable strategy. For Hyjal I know you can fly straight there and get the first three quests because I've done it. The lead-in quest was broken for the first month or so, and as a druid I had an easy way to get to Moonglade so... yeah, I skipped it :)

  5. In WOLK, you were able to purchase flying for an alt once your first toon purchased Northrend flying ability. I think it cost 1K instead of 5K. Do you know if the Cata flying ability will be similar? Specifically: once you purchase the flying ability (how much?) for your first/main toon, can you get a discounted upgrade for any other toons by buying a bind-to-account training book (or something like that)? Also, will lowbie toons be able to enter the cata starting zones for gathering herbs, mining, etc?

  6. They did eventually add a BoA book that players could send to their alts - this was not in the first release of WotLK. On the last Beta build we did not have a book version of the new flying abilities. The only place I saw flying skills made available was through the trainer interface.

The price isn't too horrible though, I believe it was about 1k gold. I can't be sure because faction discounts applied. I paid 700-800g for it on my characters.
