Cataclysm Jewelcrafting Leveling Guide (450-525)

This is it - the BIG one! I know many of you have been anxiously waiting for me to publish a guide for Jewelcrafting. I'm doing a big push this weekend to finish all my guides... just in case Blizzard decides to shut down the Beta server before Thanksgiving. I'm not taking any chances on them cutting me off like they did the last two expansions . The good news is that my patience with JC has paid off with a more solid guide than we would have gotten previously. It would seem that one of the recent builds has adjusted meta cuts to give skill points all the way to 525 and removed the evil Fire Prism from consideration. Good riddance I say!

Your first priority as a Jewelcrafter is to level up to 475. You won't be able to do the new daily quest until you skill up to that. I just tested this on a level 80 character and confirmed that as soon as you hit 475 skill the daily quest pops right up. If you have Mining, obviously you want to level that ASAP and prospect for gems. I would collect at least 10 stacks of ore for this portion of the process. If you don't have a Miner, you're at the mercy of the Auction House. You'll need at least 40 green gems for this part: 25 or so to cut and 16 to make into jewelry.

A notable change that hasn't been required in the past but is recommended now is the crafting of jewelry for skill points. We were able to avoid doing that almost completely in WotLK. If you want to get to 525 as quickly as possible in Cataclysm, you have to use the new jewelry recipes. The jewelry recipes enable you to buypass the rare cuts from 465-490 and get just one recipe from the vendor. For those not in a rush, feel free to do daily quests and purchase rare gem cutting recipes instead.

All of the jewelry recipes have random stats - when you make them you'll get a random "of the blah blah" result. I've mentioned previously that the new random stats are much better than what we used to get in Classic WoW. I wanted to quantify that a bit, so I took some notes while making random jewelry. Out of 7 Hessonite Bands only one had crummy stats (of the Whale). I also made 15 Nightstone Chokers and got 2 unappealing items (of the Eagle and of the Whale) and 1 blue quality item.

As soon as you unlock the daily quest, do it every day. You need 4 tokens to purchase a meta gem recipe. Thanks to the recent changes to Jewelcrafting, we can get by with just this one recipe.

I'm starting my guide at 425 because I leveled this profession on two toons and I'm going to post the Full Monty by God! Here is my suggested progression to level Jewelcrafting from 425-525:

425-450: Uncommon Gem Cuts (25 uncommon gems, save orange and purple ones for later)
450-467: Uncommon Gem Cuts (25 uncommon gems) or Hessonite Band (34 hessonite)
467-475: Hessonite Band (16 hessonite)
**** Start Dailies!!! ****
475-485: Hessonite Band (20 hessonite) or Nightstone Choker (20 nightstone)
485-495: Nightstone Choker (20 nightstone)
**** Purchase Meta Recipe ****
495-500: Meta Gem Cuts (5 shadowspirit diamonds) or Nightstone Choker (10-20 nightstone)
500-501: Fire Prism (3 each uncommon gem, on 20 hr cooldown)
501-505: The Perforator (4-8 each rare gem) or Meta Gem Cuts (4 shadowspirit diamonds)
505-525: Meta Gem Cuts (35-40 shadowspirit diamonds)

I just want to warn you that I went through a lot of shadowspirit diamonds between 520 and 525. The recipe turns green at 520 and I had to cut another 19 gems to get the last five points. Be prepared to burn through a lot of them! This is why I have a few spots in here for optional recipes even though the meta can be started at 490.

I realize that throwing the Fire Prism in there might seem a bit strange, but it stays at orange difficulty all the way to 525. You may as well use it if you're conserving meta gems. I made one just for the heck of it and discovered that it can include Chimera's Eye. To me that alone is reason to make them (more recipes ftw).

Another tidbit I'd like to share is for those of you with Engineering toons. Since there's no particular reason to use Dream Emeralds, set them aside. Engineers need them to create the Gnomish X-ray Scope they require to level up. If you don't have an engineering toon, you could also sell them off for those that do.

Final Tally for materials used is:
43 uncommon gems (25 any color + 18 @ 3 each color)
16-70 hessonite
20-60 nightstone
35-49 shadowspirit diamonds
24-48 rare gems (4-8 each color, recipe is yellow so results may vary)

  1. thanx for another great guide!
and teh tooltips work finally! woot!

once again, keep up all the hard work kaliope, i know i will be sending every crafter in my guild here

  2. Thanks a lot for the profession previews, really helpful for the ones that weren't lucky enough to get a beta key. Guess its time to reconsider the idea of getting jc realm first achiev the first day the expansion lands!

  3. Just looking at wowhead, there are some JC quests that look like they're probably the new dailies (present for lila, elemental goo, etc) and most of them don't seem to require going out and killing stuff, would you say that's accurate?

So my 75 DK JC/Alch can park himself in the Stormwind jewelry store and do his stuff with mats from the guys who will actually be leveling.

thanks for the guides, they're good stuff.

  4. How transferable is the JC daily rewards?

My main is inscription :-( and JC and while I am the least profitable JC in the realm I will certainly keep it. My old main is a pally with eng/JC and I doubt he will ever raid again so I don't need the [then] min/max JC.

    1) as per rasputin, can an 80 can do the dailies?

    2) In LK, the alt can use the token for sell-able dragon's eye. Anything like that in cata? I don't see the benefit of two toons having the same JC cut. I suppose it would be helpful to have get the cuts twice as fast, but it would be a pain to have to see what toon has what cut. So how valuable is the JC daily for a *second* JC. I keep coming back to alchemy where I think (please correct me) there is value in as many transmute masters as you have.

  5. BL: The tooltips aren't really working yet, I just pointed some of them directly to the Cata site. They will break as soon as Wowhead rolls them to the Live side.

Rasputin: Yes, I've been documenting daily JC and Cooking with plans to post them before launch. Most JC quests do not involve killing, I've found one that does. That's the Elemental Goo quest. I know of at least 3 that don't involve killing, so your 75 alt should be able to stay on top of most dailies.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Hagu: A level 80 can do the JC dailies, I didn't test a 75 character because all the ones I have access to are 80+. The new Chimera's Eye is not BoP, so you can farm those with your alt to feed to your main. I think the second toon is about as useful as it would be in WotLK. Farming extra "eye" gems and getting a second Prism cooldown.

  7. Hi Kaliope - Great guide! Do you happen to have any info on mining ore and prospecting beyond what's in your gatherer's guide?

    Specifically:
    > What gems are prospect-able from what ore
    > What ore is common / uncommon / rare
    > Prospecting rates of gems

I realize I just asked you for the moon there, but any info along those lines would be really helpful. Thanks for all that you do for the community!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Stede: Unfortunately I didn't document drop rates for prospecting like I have for previous expansions. The main reason for this is that prospecting felt broken when they first implemented it - obsidium was giving more gems than elementium. I think by the end of Beta they were running neck and neck. The reality for Jewelcrafters is that obsidium will be hard to come by and you'll need to focus on elementium for prospecting. You need to hit 475 to unlock the daily quest anyway, since that's also the magic number for elementium to be prospected there's no reason not to focus on it at that point.

From what I saw, all uncommon and rare gems were prospectable from all ores. I did not prospect pyrium and I wouldn't recommend prospecting pyrium. It's too valuable as a bar and epic gems aren't available anyway.

In general I would expect to get about 1 gem per prospect. That's what I was seeing in about 50% of my prospects, so you shouldn't count on more than that. As I mentioned in the Jewelcrafting guide, try to collect at least 10 stacks of ore for the first 25 skill points.

  9. So are the current JC tokens the same as the Cata tokens ?

    ReplyDelete
  10. No, the new daily quest in Stormwind/Orgrimmar uses different tokens. You cannot do the Dalaran daily to get a leg up on the new recipes. In the last Beta build there was no way to convert tokens either.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks for that. So is there any tips on things I can do now to benefit the Cata transition ?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I don't have a specific article addressing that issue, but I could possibly create one :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. Is it possible to get max 525/525 on first day of Cata? Are there any recipes to level to 525 without using daily jc tokens recipes?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The highest skill level you could theoretically get with trainer recipes is 515. All trainer recipes are gray at that skill level. You need to purchase at least one recipe from the token vendor, a recipe that will give skill points from 505-525. It's not possible to max JC on release day, the earliest you could do it is Day 4.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Can't you use WotLK materials to level up at least part of the way to 525? Cutting epic gems and/or dragons eyes?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Well, you could cut epic gems until 452 or make epic jewelry until 455. Everything from WotLK is green after 455 and the mats for these items are steep enough that it's not really worth messing with. In theory you could cut epic gems until they turn gray at 465, but you'd go through about 60 gems to get there.

Even with that, you'd be looking at a minimum three day wait to unlock a new recipe from the token vendor. Those 15 skill points really aren't that helpful when you have a 3-4 day gap in which you can farm all the Cata ore you need. You also have 24 hours (12am to midnight of launch day) to collect enough ore to reach 475 JC and get your first daily quest done. I just can't think of a scenario where it would be helpful to include WotLK JC recipes unless you're finding zero obsidium on the first day. Basically, the road blocks for JC are different from other Cata professions. The main obstacle is the daily quest tokens and using WotLK recipes doesn't help you get around that.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It does seem like, if you're also going to be spending time leveling on day one, stocking as many WotLK epic gems as you can to help with getting to 475 is worthwhile. On a high-pop realm, I'm guessing obsidium is not going to be easy to harvest. The numbers you give to get to 475 without epic cuts are 16 hessonite + 25 any uncommon -> 41 gems. At 5 gems per stack, that's 8 stacks of ore (7 stacks at 6). And at that you need to trade with someone naive because you're not likely to get that much hessonite.

    ReplyDelete
  18. "It's not possible to max JC on release day, the earliest you could do it is Day 4."

Is it not possible to purchase a meta recpie with a daily token and use it to lvl to 525 on release day?

If that is not the case on day 4 after Cata is release basically the server first JC is going to be the one that does the daily the fastest?

    ReplyDelete
  19. You're correct that epic gem cuts can be a part of the 450-475 leveling plan. They turn green at 452, which doesn't give you much of a boost. But if you're dealing with a severe ore shortage, you can WotLK cuts as a fall-back. In my opinion I wouldn't start with it in my leveling plan, I would only go that route if you run into a problem gathering obsidium.

For anyone who's concerned about that scenario, gather your ore first. If you get enough, great! If you don't, cut WotLK gems before you do the Cata recipes. Since our epic cuts will be green at 452, you want to milk those points up front. Prospect the obsidium you found and figure out how many gems you have, make WotLK gems until you get to the spot where you can safely switch to Cata gems.

If you have trouble collecting enough hessonite you can keep cutting Cata gems, it's just harder and will take more gems overall. The list above represents the ideal route to minimize materials. When going for a Realm First, you will run into obstacles and need to improvise accordingly.

    ReplyDelete
  20. So there is no way to get server first JC opening day, you need to wait till day 4 to get the 4th JC token, then hit 525 with metas?

No other way to hit 525 on day 1? If that is the case the race is going to come down to who procs the lucky meta that ticks them over to 525 first on day 4 about 8 minutes after midnight...?

    ReplyDelete
  21. A meta gem recipe costs 4 tokens, so you'd have to do the daily 4 times to purchase one recipe. That's why I say the earliest is Day 4.

That said, I don't think it's going to boil down to who does the dailies the fastest. There's more to it than that. I think it will come down to who does the dailies as soon as they reset and farms their tail off and has their materials ready to craft on Day 4. It may even come down to who is lucky enough to get good skill points on a green recipe (the meta will be green before you cap) or possibly server lag if you have multiple people crafting at the same time. Those who aren't prepped by Day 4 to make 40-50 meta gems will not be in contention. To me that's harder than just doing 4 dailies right at reset.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I think it is harder too, just kind of lame that it will come down to the daily, I wonder if horde and alliance get the same daily? That could make a big difference.

I think the only daily that makes a difference as far as reset is the last one as they all reset at the same time now I think?
Basically the race comes down to being capped on skillpoints up to metas and doing the the last daily at 12:01 when they reset?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sorry, but there's no other way to get to 525 except with meta cuts. And all meta cuts that I've seen are on the token vendor. As far as I can tell, there's no way to do it on Day 1. It's remotely possible that there are drop recipes we don't know about which would enable you to buypass the vendor. I've seen no sign of such on MMO-Champ or Wowhead, so I'm gonna stick with my original assessment that it's not possible to cap on Day 1.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, I would agree that the daily that matters is the last one. If it turns out to be the crummy Elemental Goo, that will end up being a variable in the race as well.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Does cata have the new version of broken necklace item? Will be possible to hit 525 if got new version

    ReplyDelete
  26. I never found anything like that and I'm not seeing a comparable item on Wowhead. The only JC quests we have other than the new daily is the figurine drops that activate a quest and teach you how to make new trinkets.

    ReplyDelete
  27. So if I have a mining toon and am so silly that, rather than sell for vast wealth, I want to use what I mine to help level my jewelcrafter.

    1) Why is "The reality for Jewelcrafters is that obsidium will be hard to come by and you'll need to focus on elementium for prospecting" Isn't obsidium the lower ore? So won't it be easier to acquire ( both mining and via AH?)

If the first week or two I am just mining to feed my JC ego, then would you do anything differently from your -525 mining guide? I.e.when a leveling miner would move on to an elementium zone both for mining skillups and more profitable ores, one could just continue tp fly around MH looking for obsidium?

    1) So does a leveling JC really care much between obs and ele?

    2) So which would generate more gems after prospecting: obs from remaining in MH or get to 475 and head to TH? And if you are an 80 is TH doable without too many deaths? 99% of my non-murloc deaths leveling 1-70 were from "i think i can get that node."

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hagu: Obsidium is only found in Hyjal and Vashj'ir. With the massive phasing that goes on in both zones, it's easy to phase yourself out of numerous spawn locations. Many people will end up doing that and cutting themselves off from the bulk of the obsidium supply. It's possible that Blizzard will correct this issue, but we can't count on it at this point. And the AH can only be a viable source of ore if enough players are able to mine it. On the other hand elementium spawns in three of the new zones (vs two zones for obsidium). No one in the beta complained of being phased out of elementium, so I'm guessing it's less affected by the phasing problem.

    2) My mining guide is based on my experiences in the Beta, so it serves as a workable farming primer in addition to the leveling process. I did continue farming obsidium in Hyjal after I was already capped since I was still collecting for Blacksmithing and Engineering. The main reason to go with elementium over obsidium for JC is the better gem drops (theoretically), and access to pyrite which does not spawn in the obsidium-only zones.

    3) No, a JC wouldn't care whether they were prospecting elementium or obsidium. At some point they'll need some elementium to craft pre-raid jewelry. And it's likely that elementium will have a better drop rate for rare gems.

4)I believe you'll do better going to Twilight Highlands and farming there. As I've mentioned, I think the drop rate for gems is higher with elementium (no stats to back that up, just my personal observations). Plus you'll be able to farm pyrite once you cap Mining. Jewelcrafters don't use pyrite yet but Blacksmiths and Engineers will need it for pre-raid gear. I think the ability to farm and sell pyrite is reason enough to switch to TH as soon as you can :)

I never died there even once. There are enough spawns that you can bypass the few that are near mobs and clear the rest. The zone is very rocky, so the majority of nodes are up on hillsides and away from pathing mobs.

  29. http://www.wowhead.com/spell=86883 may give you a meta gem cut (can you comment on those?) which may be available before 4 days have gone by.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I never ran into anything like that while I was in the Beta, so it's hard to say. It's possible that this is a legitimate item of some kind, but to me it doesn't bode well that it exists as a spell but no corresponding item. Which begs the question of what the implementation is if all we can see is the spell.

I'm sure there is a lot of content we don't know about because it wasn't discovered on the Beta realms. The first weeks of Cataclysm should be pretty exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Hi Kaliope, thanks so much for your guide. You are the go-to resource for crafting!

I've been working out the numbers for leveling JC, and I think you are right in that it will come down to mats more than dailies. To get 40 metas for the final stretch doesn't sound like a lot until you realize that it takes 18 gems (3 of each color) to make one meta. Now you're talking 720 gems. If prospecting gives us 2 gems per 5 ore (a generous assumption), then it will require 1800 ore, or 90 stacks. That's over 20 stacks a day! I don't even know if it's possible in the first few days of a new xpac.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hobbes: I agree that most of our readers seem to be hung up on the recipe acquisition step and not really thinking about the sheer volume of materials that need to be acquired. I mined for three months to feed the JC/Engie/Smithing beasts. If you assume a 3-way split of materials that's still a month of mining per profession. For a realm first you have to condense all that effort into a couple of days.

I wouldn't be surprised if the race boils down to who has the stamina to keep farming on Day 2, Day 3 and Day 4 without getting distracted by all the other fun & activities going on without them!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, a few more comments as I was thinking through the JC race for Realm First:

    1) You can't prospect Elementium until 475, so you will need 7-10 stacks of Obsidium first, just to get the uncommon gems to go from 450-475. So if you're a miner, going for Realm First Mining by skipping Hyjal / Vash'jir, you won't have Obsidium to help your JC leveling.

    2) About those metagems: I believe the Shadowspirit transmute requires 525 Alchemy, so there will be a Realm First Illustrious Grand Master Alchemist before there is a JC. And unless you know that Alchemist, or another that hits 525 early on, you won't have any source of metagems.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Very true, you need to get your hands on enough obsidium to hit 475. That's a barrier that there's just no getting around.

The meta gems are definitely another barrier issue. You either need to make friends with someone who's leveling it in the first few days or level Alchemy yourself if you have a toon with it. I had to level my own Alchemist to get the WotLK Realm First JC achievement.

  35. You have any idea what happened to the Rhinestone sunglasses and stardust?

    ReplyDelete
  36. The stardust is actually a quest item, not a crafted item. The sunglasses, I just don't know. Sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  37. would it be possible to level to 525 by buying a chimera gem cut, and then purchasing chimera gems from other jewelcrafters?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Where do u get the quest to learn stardust?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Stardust is a daily quest item, not a crafted item.

The Chimera's Eye cuts are gray at 510.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Where do the blue quality hessonite bands come from? Does each jewelry combine have a chance at creating blue quality? Any idea on what the rate is?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am currently sitting at over 500 JC and was hoping to compete for realm first. Does anyone know if a jeweler who did the daily right away on server launch got an extra token before the 'daily reset'? I have 2 tokens atm, but will need 4 for the meta. At this rate, no matter what I do, I won't be able to hit 525 until I get my 4th token on December 10th

    ReplyDelete
  42. When do rare gems turn grey?

    ReplyDelete
  43. hi I need help with the jc daily Ogrezonia in the mood? I have no idea where ogrezonia is! Help please!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Blue quality jewelry is a proc from making the green quality recipes. Make enough and you should get a blue one about 10% of the time :)

I'm not sure about the daily reset, but I'm guessing it didn't reset yesterday after launch. I could be wrong on that :) Waiting 4 days for the dailies is an unfortunate part of the process, other JCs should be in the same boat.

Rare gems turn gray at 515 skill.

Lol, I don't think you need to worry about finding Ogrezonia. You just need 3 jaspers to give the quest lady :) Although Ogrezonia sounds like it would be a cool place!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Was it possible to do the daily before 3am (my server) daily resets and then again on Tuesday. I was working on mining and waited to long to try it.
If so then tomorrow morning at reset would be the soonest we could see JCs get RF.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Scurra:
Yes, It was possible to do the daily before 3am. I did one before 3 am. And next one at 4am.

And 3 hours ago I got Realm First and some angry whispers from jewelcrafters that was close to getting it too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Gratz on the Realm First and nice going on picking up the daily twice in one "day"!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Is there a way to see ingame, if a player always got the realm first jewelcrafting achievement? The EU Armory is down so this is no option for me and in case the achievement is not available, i could sleep this night. :)

...and not to forget: thank you for your great work Kaliope!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hope this isn't a repeat question, but is there a link to what the various jc dailies are? I've run across the elemental goo one and cutting the 3 purple gems. Just curious what the others might be?

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm going for realm first and hope no one unlocked the daily within that first hour. I've got 50 meta gems to go from 506-525 and I'm prepared to do the dailies, even accounted for the one will require a mage port for speed. After prospecting over 100 stacks of ore plus buying out a lot of purple gems, I'm hoping it all works out.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I haven't seen anyone ask about the Gemcutting Racial ability yet. Does a Draenei need to hit 535 for server first, or can they make rare cuts until they go grey for them at 525?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Realm Firsts are not showing up in the Armory at this time, in fact the Armory isn't working terribly well with the new site upgrades.

The JC dailies are in my older "preview" post:

    Cataclysm Jewelcrafting Preview

From what our readers have said, the Draenei racial allows you to get the achievement at 525. This is behaving differently than the Herbalism Racial for Tauren, but I've had several reports from Draenei who got the achievement early due to their racial.

Good luck to everyone pushing for Realm Firsts and don't forget to pop back and post in our Brag Board if you get it!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey Kaliope, for the stardust, can you jus ttoss it on any npc? or human player? or both? i am competing vs another guy tonight for realm first so it will come down to who does the daily faster :/

    ReplyDelete
  54. You can use the dust on any NPC I believe. On the Beta realm I dusted myself, the JC trainer & vendor, the auctioneers and the little kids that run around Stormwind. I think it works on pretty much anyone, flying would probably be the fastest way jump from person to person.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I can now confirm that my Draenei racial ability did not get me realm first. I made Bold Rubies until they went grey at 525 (grey at 515 for everyone else).

  56. im trying to get realms 1st on my server. im at 517 at mo at 301am ill get the 4th daily i made sure i have 10 of each gem for the dalies and i have 49 meta gems to get me from 517 to 525:) heres hoping...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Got realm first! Thanks a lot for this guide, Kaliope. Only needed 25 Shadowspirit Diamonds and a Fire Prism to get from 508 to 525.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Hello, everyone!
Got my realm first (russian realm) today, but the title of the achievement for some weird reason says I'm the realm first Inscriptor though the body text and the icon of the achievement are definitely about the JC :-S And armory info is somehow outaded, it still thinks I'm a 517 JCer. Wrote a ticket, still waiting. Hope it's just a localization issue.
Logged in 10 minutes before the dailies reset, bought a meta-recipe and needed 28 gems to level from 517 to 525. Thanks for guide =)

    ReplyDelete
  59. Just got my server first, couldn't have done it without this guide. Thanks very much!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ty for this info i farmed for 13 hours of mining to get all i could need, and it paid off i got realms 1st jc, your guide got me to 517 and at 3am i did the daily and made 14 metas to get the last 8 points:)
couldent have done it without you,, ty

    ReplyDelete
  61. It was a 3 way tie on my realm. It was funny since I had some guildies stand on the NPC to make it harder to receive and turn in the quest. But realm first counts if you all get it within an hour of the first one.

Thanks for your guide! I even remembered using it back in Wrath too.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Thanks to your guide, I got Realm First JC today at 2:13AM, 13 minutes after the daily quest reset on my server. I used rare gems to make The Perforator from 490-510 a few days ago, and tonight used 31 metas to get to 524, saving the final point for Fire Prism (still orange at 524, turns gray at 525).

I had leveled an alchemist(transmute) to 525 using your Alchemy guide, and found out that each transmute makes 2 Shadowspirit diamonds, not counting the transmute specialty bonus. So I ended up with 61 metas going into the final stretch, when I stopped buying ore.

On our server, the daily was elemental goo. I don't know if the daily would have switched if I waited another minute, but decided not to risk it. There were a few other JC's fighting for the realm first, so we all went to Hyjal and killed the earth elementals at the entrance. One guy finished a few min before me because he was a boomkin (AOE) with a friend healing him! But he only stocked 30 metas, so he stalled out at 523. =P I referred him and other listeners to your guide in the post-game-discussion held outside the SW JC shop.

I can't thank you enough for your posts and hosting this helpful discussion!

  64. Realm firsts count if you all get it within an hour of the first one? I maxed out my jewelcrafting within 60-90 seconds of the one who got realm first, but I did not get realm first also. Should I contact a GM?

It all came down to who got better luck with the RNG on skillups, and I took just a little longer to get there, it seems.

Thank you so much for this guide!

  65. A HUGE congrats to all you guys who got the Realm First JC achievement today - that's AWESOME! I'm so glad that I could share my info and help so many of you experience something that was special for me in WotLK =)

To this day I'm still tickled that my little Krystella got Realm First JC and have fond memories of mining my butt off in Sholazar Basin!

  66. "Realm firsts count if you all get it within an hour of the first one?"

I think that is what I heard. What happened was the three of us obtained 525 within 10 seconds of each other. Maybe it's within the first minute for professions and within 1 hour for realm first 85?

  67. Any recommendations on which Meta Gem to buy? Love your site, guides, recipe lists... everything... thanks so much for all you do!

  68. I would think that any of the old standards would still be appealing now. That would include Chaotic/Ember/Austere. Relentless is currently missing from the recipe line-up, but any of the other three would be a good choice.

  70. There's a pattern listed on wowhead for making stardust (http://www.wowhead.com/item=52490), and the quest item is a different item (http://www.wowhead.com/item=52507), so it's clearly not just a quest item. Do you learn it after you do that daily, or what? Anyone found out for sure?

  71. That recipe has been in the Wowhead database since before the quests were implemented. In all likelihood it was replaced with the quest version and the Wowhead folks just haven't purged the item yet. Wowhead's database is still a mess from Beta, so I wouldn't count anything they list as confirmed unless you've seen it in-game too.

I just checked the Armory and the only stardust they list is the quest version. I don't think this recipe still exists.

  72. is there a cata equivalent of the damaged necklace so we can get more tokens faster?

  73. To my knowledge there is not a damaged necklace equivalent in Cataclysm. I think we're stuck with the daily quest route for now, although it's always possible that new options will be added in future patches.
