Jewelcrafting Drop Recipe Preview

I mentioned in one of my tweets last week that I had looted a Jewelcrafting recipe. I was also lucky enough to find a couple on the Auction House for a reasonable price, so I scooped those up as well. There's not a whole lot worth sharing, but since beta news is a bit lacking this past week I thought I'd go ahead and post them for you.

Unfortunately none of these items has any actual stats. I'm hoping that the item information will be patched in soon, until then I'm just going to hang onto them. I still think they can give us some insights into what we can expect for Jewelcrafters. Here are the recipes:

You can clearly see the lack of stats here. Now it's possible that these will be some of the new 'vanity' items that are for looks only. Personally, I hope not. Not that I object to pretty headgear or bracelets, but the mats for these items are pretty steep for shinies. The emerald and ruby gems listed here are rare/blue quality, not cheapie greens. I happen to have a few from Mining, so that's confirmed.

I haven't even scored any elementium yet, so we can assume it's either cata.saronite or cata.titanium. In poking through Wowhead's spell listings, my money is on titanium. The recipes that include elementium have just small quantities of one bar per crafted item. Smells like titanium to me. Using titanium and rare gems in a vanity piece is one expensive shiny!

Also, the volatile requirement is high. To give you an idea of what it takes to score 50 volatiles, so far I've collected 1900 pieces of ore. My grand total of volatiles (a mote, not a primal) is 84 earth and 113 shadow. The drop rate is really low at this point. Putting 50 of these into one crafted item is a significant investment. Personally, I'm hoping they improve the drop rate on volatiles.

Just for grins, I took a pic of my gem collection for you guys.

And yes, I know the icons are confusing. I promise, these really are the new gems!

  1. I did go on wowhead and noticed they are under Misc rather then a specific armor. So I'm thinking vanity item.

  2. You may be right, we just don't know yet. If these are vanity items, I think they should tone down the mats a bit. Perhaps drop the volatiles and reduce the number of rare gems to just one.

Another thing I find odd is the bracelet. Wrist gear isn't super visible on the average character, so that's an odd area to target for vanity gear. Again, who knows what they have in mind, but I think helms/chest/shoulders/cloak will be more appealing for vanity items than bracers.

  3. Just did a little dressing room check of these items to see what type of art they might have. Both headpieces are just a simple monocle. Not beefy like the engie ones, more like an eyepatch without a strap. There might be some folks who'd go for this from an RP standpoint, but I wouldn't expect it to be a high demand item. Personally, I'd love to see a headband/crown for those of us who want our hair to be visible. The monocle is a wee bit "piratey" for some character types (healers).

The bracer is a small black bracer with a seam/buckle on it. They sit about halfway between the elbow and wrist, and are completely covered by typical leather gloves. The only way I can see players showing interest in this item is if it actually cloaked the glove artwork and allowed us to run around with a small bracer and nekkid hands :)

  4. You surprise me not remembering elementium of all things! http://www.wowhead.com/search?q=elementium brings up the old world goodness out of BWL itself. Don't fall so far into the beta that you forget your roots. Of course, it could just be a place holder for some other new metal to come. We shall see...

  5. No worries, I remember the vanilla elementium. I actually learned the recipe on my rogue about a year ago. I believe this particular item is being recycled for Cata, with the BWL elementium getting renamed. In my beta Mining list the old bar is called 'Hardened Elementium' and the old ore is 'Elementium Ingot'. In this post we're just exploring the details of the new elementium, which is clearly a titanium-style metal.

  6. Does it happen to mention in your searching what the character level needs to be in order to max professions for cat yet?

As far as the noble's-I tend to think there are lots of people who would buy something like that for an alt...especially if marketed correctly.

    Thanks for posting the info!

  7. Anon: Right now there are no trainers offering Illustrious training. Most of the IF/SW trainers only go up to 300 (the Herb chic will actually train all the way to 450). The trainers in Dalaran will teach you all the normal professions to 450. But access to 525 is locked at this point, no one can train it. Once they patch it in, I'll post the level requirement information. I know a lot of folks are waiting to see it :)

  8. A part of me is glad I'm not in the Beta at the moment. I think I'd lose my mind trying to organize those gems when they share icons!

Thanks for the update. I look forward to vanity items, but I agree that if these are going to be that... they need to ease off the crafting requirements. As I recall, though, weren't there similar over-estimates in crafting requirements made on Blizzard's part with WotLK that were reduced pre-release?

  9. There may be some additional tweaking going on with crafting. I did some rough calculations of mats when I first got to the beta and again last week - got drastically different results on the second round. Truly we'll have to be patient and see what the numbers are like when they put these items on the trainers, for now it's still a guessing game.

  10. Is there a new jewelcrafting - gem bag or is 24slot really as big as it gets?

  11. To my knowledge there's not a bigger version than the 24 slot bag. I know this was a problem in Wrath where folks were hoping for a larger bag.
