Once again the Lunar Festival is dragging us to the far corners of Azeroth in search of ancient cows... or something like that. Let's not forget that the Lunar Festival is also a source of new recipes for Engineers and Tailors. If you haven't gotten these recipes in previous years, now is the time to fill out your collection. There are a whopping 14 recipes for Engineers and 2 recipes for Tailors which can be purchased for those odd little Coins of Ancestry you've been collecting.
If you're an Engineer, you'll be saving up for two different rocket launchers and four different types of fireworks. The skill requirements for these recipes range from 125 to 275. To purchase all the recipes available, you'll need 30 Coins of Ancestry. This is on top of any coins you may need for achievements. Each recipe collection costs five coins and contains three recipes in different colors for that type of firework. The two rocket launcher recipes also cost five tokens each. Rocket launchers are a unique item type to this event, you cannot get a rocket launcher recipe from any other source once Lunar Festival is over.
For Tailors there are only two recipes, so only 10 Coins of Ancestry are needed. They require 250 skill to learn, so don't bother getting them for a low level alt. The recipes available are basically red versions of the festival outfits that the vendors are selling. The vendor doesn't actually sell festival outfits in red, so there may be a small portion of buyers who just happen to like the red outfits enough to buy them. My guess is that the market value on these items isn't terribly high, but completionists will want the recipes anyway.
All festival recipes are now Bind on Pickup (unlike previous years) so you have to collect and purchase them on the toon with the proper tradeskill. An extra benefit to this process is that you get 75 Alliance rep for each Elder you visit. So you'll be boosting all five city factions with your efforts. You can also work on your Explorer achievements while you're wandering around the countryside, if you haven't finished them yet. Another perk to the Lunar Festival is that you can get your lowbie toons to other major cities without paying for a mage portal.
This event runs for about three weeks, which should give you plenty of time to finish your travels. You can view a list of all the recipes sold by the Lunar Festival vendor here. You can also go to your profession list on Crafter's Tome and select Source = "Quest" to see a list of these items within your profession. There are two vendors at the dock in Moonglade, make sure you speak with Fariel and not Valadar if you want to purchase recipes.
