JC Daily Quest Change in 3.3

This is just a small thing, but I haven't seen mention of it elsewhere so I thought I'd write it up. For those of you who haven't noticed, the drop requirement for the Glowing Ivory Figurine has been modified. Previously, you had to kill Shoveltusks to get the ivory. Now you can also get the ivory by killing mammoths.

I have to say, this has typically been my least favorite JC daily. There just aren't any convenient zones for farming shoveltusks if your hearth is set to Dalaran. Now that they've implemented this change, I'm finding it much quicker to finish this quest. It's actually on par with the other dailies now, which you can do in 1 or 2 short hops from Dalaran. I've gotten this quest twice so far, and both times I went to Sholazar and killed a few mammoths. You could also go to K2 if you prefer, there's plenty of mammoth packs running around that place.

Even though this is a small change, I appreciate that Blizzard notices things like this and tries to improve them.

  1. This change was there in patch 3.2 but they forgot to change the quest text. I agree with that its great that they finally changed it!

  2. Hmm, I don't recall seeing that in the patch notes. Hopefully we'll be helping to call people's attention to the change :)

  3. Not everything is in the patch notes ;)

I discovered it simply by looking up the quest item on wowhead. One of my JCs is level 75, so I'm always trying to find easy mobs relatively close to Dalaran for the daily.

  4. It was in the quest text, it's been there for weeks :) i thought it had always been there and was kicking myself for not noticing it soon but a friend put me right, the change had only just been made.

  5. Another fav mammoth site is right by Dun Nifflen, there is a pack of 7-8 that go running right below the flight point out front. One nice AoE and it drops from that pack every time.

  6. And the new map leads you to K3 where the mammuts don't drop the item. They are also NOT flagged to drop the quest item in the tooltip.

And yes, it was a long time before 3.3 and it was in the quest text, at least in Europe.

  7. It's been there since 3.2; however, I never got it to drop off anything but a shoveltusk (and Elune knows I've tried!).

  8. Its been there for quite a while, i discovered it completely by accident a while back, killed a mammoth for its meat and got the JC drop as well.

  9. You can also get it off those poor emaciated mammoths in Dragonblight... adults and calves (and they're so emaciated they don't even put up much of a fight)

  10. I know this is late and you probably already know this, but to my understanding and experience, not once have I recvd the quest item from the mammoths around K3. I do and have however, been able to loot the quest item from the emaciated mammoths from around the wyrmrest temple in dragonblight. That is the closest location I have found. :)
