So I finally tracked down the new epic trinkets that are coming our way in the 2.4 patch. They are pretty nifty, I must say. Most of the trinkets are superior to Karazhan loot, which should make them desirable to the average player.
I'm pretty tickled that Blizzard is putting a Fishing daily quest into the game. Fishing is pretty much the red-headed stepchild of the crafting world, so any love we get is good love. Clearly the folks who came up with the quests have some fondness for the profession, since they put some actual TLC into the quest design.
Yes, there's a gathering quest coming in the 2.4 patch. I actually didn't realize this until I got in there and started picking up quests. This one starts in Shattrath City, near the flight master. You are asked to collect 8 nether residue, which supposedly drops anywhere in Outland. I've done this quest 2-3 times on each of my gatherers to try and figure out the best way to complete it. Unfortunately all of my research is subject to change between now and release. It's pretty obvious to me that they are still tweaking drop rates. On the first day of mining I collected all 8 quest drops after about a dozen nodes. Two days later it took over 30 nodes to get the same 8 drops, so clearly the drop rate is in flux. Either that or I just had horrible luck on the second pass.
The test server has been quite a challenge for me this time out, the character copies were down for close to a week and now that I'm finally there, the lag is beyond horrible. Plus, I couldn't find the new quartermaster the first day, despite a good hour of looking. I finally located him on the second day and got some screenshots for you, but then my copy of Photoshop 6 died a ghastly death and I've been trying to figure out how to get the images in a blog-friendly format. Thank goodness Adobe has trial downloads on their site, or who knows how long I would have been stuck :) Now I'm finally ready to share what I've collected so far, woot!
I had hoped to bring everyone some early news from the PTR today, but alas the character copy has been down all evening and I'm not able to take any of my toons over to see what's what. Instead I spent my evening doing the Valentine's Day quests :)
In case you haven't noticed yet, the Lunar Festival went up this past Tuesday after maintenance. For those new to WoW, there are some special recipes available during this event. The only professions offered are Tailoring and Engineering, but if you have one of those professions you're in luck. Tailors could potentially even make money now by crafting the "festival" wear and selling them on the Auction to folks who don't want to bother with coin collecting to buy their own. Engineers probably won't be able to take advantage, since the fireworks recipes they can purchase are likely canceled out by the fireworks vendors associated with the event. Even so, if you're an Engineer this is a great time to beef up your recipe collection.
