Karazhan Fishing Report (2.3 PTR)

The login servers are down at the moment, so I decided to make use of the time by trying the new fishing spot on the test server.  Supposedly the fish that are used in the new cooking recipes can be caught in Zul'Aman or outside Karazhan.  Since going into ZA isn't an option for little ole me, I hopped a griff to Deadwind Pass.

I didn't want to spend too much time here since all these fishies I catch are going to be wiped out any day now, so I just put in about 10 minutes to get a sampling of what riverside Kara has to offer.  I caught 40 fish total, here's the breakdown of what I got:

19x Barbed Gill Trout
7x Crescent-Tail Skullfish
12x Bloodfin Catfish
2x Lightning Eel

So 47% trout, 47% skullfish/catfish and a smidge of lightning eels.  Not too bad to end up with almost 50% of the new fish vs other stuff we probably don't care about.  I also noticed that fishing here does not require a lure.  My fishing is at 375 and with my +20 graphite pole I was having no trouble with getaway fish.  I'm not sure what the requirement is for this particular spot, but max skill fisher-folk should have no trouble.

  1. IIRC, there's a new recipe using Lightning eels (similar to Dragonbreath Chili, but shooting lightning instead of fire), so Eels may actually be interesting again - and if I know Blizz, they forgot to code the lightning discharge as something different from the Lightning Bolts, so elemental shamans would actually get all their talents working on them (same as the Lightning Capacitor, basically.....). So it may be good to figure out where to get the eels (in good quantities)

  2. Yep, I actually have that one in the database now. It's a rare drop from the Cooking quest, so I didn't expect there to be much frenzy over it. But for anyone looking for a good source for Lightning eels, they have a better drop rate from the lakes in Winterspring and EPL.

  3. I believe that the lake in Moonglade is an excellent place for lightning eels.
